Approved Probation and Bail Hostels
This is a list of all Bail Hostels in the geographical British Isles.
Bail Hostels are a type of Open Prison, used as an alternative to full prison, and a resettlement aid for prisoners who are nearing the end of their sentences. They are currently run in England & Wales by the NPS. Other region's agencies are described in the sections for those regions.
The
HMPS is
set to turn into the NOMS and merge with
the NPS; this new agency will also run the Bail Hostels.
Whether it will list them publicly or re-categorise them as
Category E Prisons remains entirely unclear.
Some regions now call Probation Hostels
"Approved Premises". The "Approved" means by the Home
Office, or, in the Isle of Man, presumably the Department of Home Affairs.

This document is associated with a list of Closed Prisons, and was until recently in danger of falling out of date with respect to new Hostels and the difficulty of finding information on them. Those without other marks are under the jurisdiction of the local
probation service.
All but a few Probation Areas run Hostels.
Probation Officers like to call imprisoned people "residents".
Hostels have a curfew from 2300 to 0700. (From 2200 in Hampshire, and to 0600 in the West Midlands.) There is 24Hr staff cover, and strictly/stupidly enforced house rules. Breaking the rules results in warnings, or a Breach [of Bail], which generally means prison for a week.

The NPS says there are 100 Hostels in England and Wales, and 103 of them are listed here, so either they can't count or three are hiding from them (or new, or closed). All possibilities are equally likely.
As far as I can tell, Scotland does not have Bail Hostels, probably because it dissolved its' Probation system in 1968AD.

It appears that Hostels in NI are not covered by the NPS, being instead under the remit of the PBNI.
Hostels there seem to be much the same creatures as those in England & Wales nonetheless. Research has not yet revealed where there are specifically yet, having only just noticed that they exist at all. (This new direction has been prompted by a recent search request.)
The Irish Republic has a small number of Hostels; research will look there next. Community sentences are much more popular "over Eire". Currently centring on Cork, Waterford, and Dublin.
While there are no Hostels in the Faroe Isles themselves, they are
currently part of the Danish criminal system, and places are available in
other Nordic countries if necessary.
